The drive
Head north-west out of Madurai towards Dindigul and Batlagundu, then the road climbs through hairpin bends and eucalyptus forest. The last hour is slower, so leave time and don't plan to arrive after dark.
Which car
The Glanza automatic has hill hold, which stops the car rolling back on a steep stop. The Fronx sits higher and handles the bends well. Travelling with family? The Ertiga takes seven and has a luggage carrier.
Stops worth making

Tips
- Use a lower gear going down rather than riding the brakes.
- Mist rolls in after 3 pm in many months: headlights on, speed down.
